Working out the finished width of your gate

Step 1 - Measure the opening (from wall to wall) e.g. 1m.

The smaller of these two measurements will be used to work out the actual finished size of your gate.

Step 2 - Decide on whether to use one baton or two batons on either side of gate.

Generally our side entrance gates are wall mounted using two 1.8m x 100mm x 50mm pressure treated batons. One baton is used to hinge the gate and the second baton is used to bolt into.

Step 3 - Do your sums!

Take the smaller measurement of the opening e.g. 1m.

Deduct 100mm from the size of the opening to allow for the two 1.8m x 100mm x 50mm batons (one on either side of the gate). Then deduct an additional 30mm to allow space for the hinges and fluent opening and closing of the gate.

• Batons x 2 (1.8m x 100mm x 50mm)
• Hinges and Opening - 30mm
• Calculation: 1000mm - (100mm (Batons) + 30mm (hinges and opening)) = 870mm gate width
